The first part of the talk provides a description of the TVIS measurement system followed by a brief overview of a number of applications in pharmaceutical freeze-drying.

The majority of the talk then focusses on the first time reporting of the use of dual-electrode system and its application in the determination of vial heat transfer coefficient (K_v).

This includes a method for predicting:

(i) Ice region specific temperatures (T_i at the sublimation interface and T_b at the base of the ice mass)

(ii) Ice sublimation rate (dm/dt)
